Interesting article in the NY Times yesterday regarding the fact that “green” building is becoming more main street, with a growing number of people focused on the need to tune into a home's environmental and energy issues. In fact, Thomas Friedman the Op-Ed Columnist for the Times says “living and thinking ‘green’ was the most important thing to happen this past year. The subject has advanced beyond the ‘tree huggers’ and reached a tipping point for Americans.
So whats ‘green’ mean in terms of our home and building trends? Builders who are building more environmental responsible homes are including the use of recycled materials, installing tankless hot water systems, variable speed HVAC blowers, Energy Star windows & appliances, adding insulation beyond minimum code requirements, installing fans to move & exchange air, using florescent blubs in place of standard light bulbs and much more. The benefits include a healthier home and one that costs less to maintain.
I am pleased to say that I was the first Realtor in State of South Carolina to be recognized with the ECOBROKERÒ Designation, a certification for real estate professionals knowledgeable about energy-efficient, sustainable, and healthier design/features in homes and buildings. The real estate industry is changing, and to best serve my clients, I need to understand the newest designs, technologies, and environmental issues. This is especially helpful in working with my builder clients or prospective buyers considering new construction.
hi Dennis,
congratulations..
and hope we will have more of this kind...
