MOUNT PLEASANT, SC (AP) - An important link between the sea islands and the South Carolina mainland is open again to traffic. Officials say traffic began moving over the Ben Sawyer Bridge linking Mount Pleasant and Sullivans Island early Friday. The bridge had been closed while the old swing bridge was replaced with a new 640-ton swing span. The opening concludes the $31 million bridge replacement project.
